Surrounded by lush vegetation and finely decorated, Bar des Arts Itaim is one of the most inviting spots for lunch or dinner in busy and affluent Itaim, in southern São Paulo.
The 33,000-square-foot restaurant, a top choice for romantic dining, is part of Grupo Leopolldo, with menus by chef Giancarlo Bolla.
There are three main areas: outdoor dining with tables around a soapstone fountain and a pond; the main dining room in classic design; and the Half-Moon room with garden views, for corporate events, parties and weddings. The restaurant has an indoor and an outdoor bar and a branch of an Expand wine store.
For lunch, there's a buffet with daily specials such as tambaqui, tri-tip, codfish and feijoada (on Saturday) and desserts such as a locally famous flan.
Happy hour, for which the restaurant is famous, has caipirinhas made with the exclusive Bar des Arts cachaça, made in Mococa, São Paulo (bottles available for purchase) and a varied menu which includes carpaccio hors d'ouevres, parmesan and rosemary crostini, filet mignon kebabs, mini codfish croquettes, smoked salmon with carciofini, and buffalo mozzarella.
The à la carte dinner has a newly launched menu with a tour of Brazilian, Italian and French cuisine and a greater number of Brazilian dishes such as the grilled tambaqui ribs in lemon sauce with plantain farofa.
The Leopolldo group also owns the Leopolldo restaurant in Jardins and Leopolldo for events in Itaim. Bar des Arts Higienópolis, opened after the one in Itaim, closed in late 2011.
