Pau de Angu, a restaurant in Tiradentes, Minas Gerais, offers some of the best regional food in the area. Located in a valley at the foot of the São José mountain range, Pau de Angu serves specialties such as leitão pururuca (crisp pork), galo ao pé, or galopé (chicken and pork foot) and over a dozen kinds of typical desserts - fruit jams and doce de leite to eat with minas cheese.
A lot of the food is grown and raised on the property and prepared on a wood stove.
Named for a tree (Machaerium aculetaum) with beautiful purple flowers, Pau de Angu is a rustic, welcoming stop less than three miles from Tiradentes on the historic Royal Road as you go to Bichinho, a village that's famous for its arts and crafts.
