From Patricia Ribeiro NewsstandLiberdade Fair in São Paulo, Brazil Photo ©2007 Patricia Ribeiro While the Liberdade Fair booths must be taken away at the end of the weekly event, the newsstands on Liberdade Square are permanent. They sell the most important publications aimed at Japanese and nikkeis (Japanese descendants), such as newspapers São Paulo-Shimbun and Nippo-Brasil, as well as popular magazine Made in Japan. Among the cover stories featured in the late issues shown here are Japan's Princess Aiko, here referred to as Princess Ko and articles relevant to dekasseguis, or Japanese-Brazilians working legally in Japan. According to the Brazilian Dekassegui Association, an estimated 300,000 Japanese-Brazilians are currently working in Japan. |
