Roxos e Doentes: Souvenirs for the Brazil Soccer Aficionado

By , About.com Guide

About Roxos e Doentes:

If you're into Brazilian soccer or want to buy a souvenir for someone who is, Roxos e Doentes should be on your list of priorities. At the time of this writing, Roxos e Doentes has brick-and-mortar stores in São Paulo and Belo Horizonte.

The company also responds for team stores in different Brazilian states and has a well-supplied online store.

Besides Brazilian team jerseys, from Brasileirão to the humblest, you'll also find jerseys for all national teams and clubs from 21 other countries at Roxos e Doentes.

What it Means to be Roxo and Doente:

These long-standing colloquial expressions mean you're crazy about your team. Roxo (HO-shu) means "purple"; doente (do-ANT-e) means "sick".

Roxo has nothing to do with team colors - rather, it describes a passion, an intensity of feeling (as in yelling about a bad call till you get purple in the face).

But a campaign launched by Corinthians has tried to translate that connotation into an extra team jersey, dividing fans into those who like the idea and those who see no reason to stray from the team's traditional black and white.
