Casa Santa Luzia:
Casa Santa Luzia, a gourmet food store in the upscale Jardins district in São Paulo, offers a grand tour of world foods.
Founded by a Portuguese immigrant in 1926, when Jardins (meaning "gardens") was still made up of chácaras and lit by gas lamps, Casa Santa Luiza is your stop for products such as Turkish dates, foie gras, a wide array of European cheese brands and wines, and high-quality Brazilian products. The inventory has about 14,000 items.
The hortifruti (produce) section at Casa Santa Luzia is a feast for the senses, with year-long and seasonal selections that include native Brazilian fruit such as abiu.
Christmas and Réveillon at Casa Santa Luzia:
Casa Santa Luzia is famous for its holiday foods. From the Christmas gift boxes and baskets - ranging in price from about $15 to over $1,500 - to the deli, stocked up with festive dishes, and the house panettone, filled with apricot coulis and covered with chocolate, you'll find lots of options for a gourmet Christmas and Réveillon. Full meals can be ordered in advance.
In December, the store opens on the Sundays before Christmas.
Coffee and Tea at Casa Santa Luzia:
Coffee and tea lovers will delight in the amazing variety of quality brands Casa Santa Luzia has in stock.
The mezzanine has one of the top selections of special coffee brands in São Paulo - and English-speaking associates can help you with your souvenir shopping. Around late May or early June every year, the store hosts the Special Coffee Week, when you can sample several top brands.
On the mezzanine, take a little break from shopping for a cup of espresso at the counter. Ask for the monthly special.
Stained Glass by Gregório Gruber:
Ambiance is part of Casa Santa Luzia's charm. And the two large stained glass panels by artist Gregório Gruber, which celebrate São Paulo, are an attraction in themselves.
In December, open also on Sundays before Christmas, 9a-7p (2008 hours; call or check the Casa Santa Luzia website for hours every year.
