Boutique hosteling has made a splash in Salvador, Bahia with the early November opening of F Design Hostel, in the Rio Vermelho district.
Owned by Luiz Fernando Guimarães, of Brazil's most famous actors/comedians, and hotel entrepreneur Adriano Medeiros, whose professional background includes Costa do Sauipe, the new place brings the pleasure of receiving friends and Bahia's exuberance into the hosteling experience.
The project signed by Alex Galletti and André Figueredo of 3A do Brasil Arquitetura is youthful and elegant. In Brazil, expectation about the opening built up as Guimarães timed a pre-launch party to the famous Yemanjá festivities in Rio Vermelho on Feb.2, gave interviews talking about how he enjoys Rio Vermelho, Salvador and Bahia and was featured in a celeb magazine visiting the construction site, a hard hat on his head and an excited smile on his face.
The luxury statement is made from the get-go, thanks to a striking facade and the beautiful lobby with an art gallery and inviting furniture.
The hostel comes as a well-deserved addition to Rio Vermelho, a seaside district which has been home to Jorge Amado and Caetano Veloso, has some of the city's top luxury and boutique hotels and great nightlife and culinary.
In fact, the hostel is right by one of the points for acarajé in Salvador: Largo de Santana, where you'll find Dinha's stall, kept by her daughter. Casa da Dinha, opened by the late baiana and managed by her family, is two blocks away, at Rua João Gomes 25 on Largo de Santana. (Acarajé baianas were officially recognized as Intangible Heritage of Bahia on Oct. 26, 2012.)
