Next to St. Francis Church and is the Church of the Third Other of Saint Francis, unique in Brazil due to its elaborate facade in churrigueresco style, a type of Mexican architectural style.

Fruit and foliage, volutes, garlands, curlicues, saints - the intricately decorated surface draws the eye and presents some challenges to photographers trying to avoid the iron fence which leaves a narrow space in front of the church, located in a narrow street.

Inside the church, most often closed, there are tile murals depicting Lisbon scenes prior to the the 1755 earthquake which devastated the Portuguese capital. You can see photos of the murals on the website Cerâmica no Rio.
