Marina Palace, in Leblon, is one of the best-known landmarks of seaside Rio. On Dec.17, 2011, the hotel commemorated its 30th anniversary with a young, renovated look that includes a new penthouse and nine executive designed by architect André Piva.
By 1987, this most carioca of hotels had become part of Brazil pop music with "Virgem", a 1987 hit in the namesake album by Marina Lima and her poet brother Antônio Cícero:
Things don’t need you/ Who said I had to?/[…] When Hotel Marina lights up/ It’s not for the two of us/ Nor does it remember our love. (free translation of the original lyrics in Portuguese by Patricia Ribeiro)
Though the contemporary hotel can be a good choice for romantic getaways and it has several great leisure amenities - including a beach bar, a lounge with a piano bar, a rooftop pool, a beach bar and a restaurant with live jazz - it is also finely equipped for business travel.
The business center, with updated computers, a printer, a scanner and a copier, can be used 24 hours a day. All hotel areas, including the pool, have Wi-Fi internet.
On the 26th floor, the Ataulfo convention room has a capacity for 180; the Urquiza (capacity: 60) and the Linhares (capacity: 10), on the 25th floor, are other business facilities.
