Débora Birn is a true girl from Ipanema, where she was born and has lived all her life. She's a graduate from PUC-Rio de Janeiro, where she majored in journalism and took some credits in cinema, her other passion.
Though audacious – in a social communications course she took with the Army Ministry, Débora jumped from a 98-foot tower and obtained a bravery certificate – she has preferred the stability of a career as a civil servant to full-time journalism.
Contributing as a guest reporter for Brazil Travel fits Débora's lifestyle just right. Always on the run, with an enthusiasm both for sunshine and for Rio nightlife, Débora enjoys the prospect of sharing tips about her finds and favorite hangouts with international travelers.
Rio is wonderful, and like any other place in the world, it has its problems. Sometimes, when people tell me Rio is dangerous, I ask them, "Isn't living dangerous?"
As a journalist, I love the thrill, the mess, the high vibe of a place full of charm and surprises. Where else can we find this sea and these mountains, these Arpoador sunsets? I feel very grateful for living in Ipanema.
Nothing can compare to carioca friendliness, or the friendliness of those who are cariocas at heart.
I love Rio and I invite you to join in this passion.
