Waku Sese

By , About.com Guide

Waku Sese Overview :

Waku Sese, a restaurant and snack bar in Manaus, invites you to step into the rich and colorful world of Amazon food with full meals or light treats for an afternoon snack.

The name of the restaurant, meaning roughly "everything really fine", is a greeting of the Sateré Mawé tribe which is used to wish people well.

You'll have a fine time for sure experiencing the intriguing flavors of Amazon fruit - guaraná, açaí, tucumã, cupuaçu - as well as a wide array of typical dishes made from Amazon meat in an airy and casual setting.

The menu includes less daring choices, such as steak with rice and mashed potatoes.

Waku Sese Food:

Hearty meals at Waku Sese highlight the region's many kinds of appetizing fish. Tambaqui, tucunaré, pirarucu, dourado and others are served with regional sides such as banana and nut farofa, tucupi (a sauce made from wild cassava) and buffalo cheese.

One of the restaurant's specialties - turtle - comes from a lot authorized by IBAMA, Brazil's Environmental Institute.

For a snack, one of the best bets is the tapioca (aka caboclinha), served with several salty fillings, like tambaqui and coalho cheese.

Drinks go from caipirinhas to interesting blends of guaraná and other fruit (tangerines or peanuts, for example).
