Campos do Jordão is decked out for the holidays and hosts a wide range of attractions during Natal na Montanha, or Christmas in the Mountains, from late December to Epiphany (January 6).
Praça São Benedito, a square in Vila Capivari, is the setting for a lot of the action in Natal na Montanha, including the New Year's fireworks. More than 200,000 people packed the square and its surroundings to ring in 2008.
Leave it to Campos do Jordão, which is fit to burst with fat-wallet tourists from São Paulo in the winter, not only to come up with a Christmas extravaganza - something which fits Capivari's European style - but to dare to compete with Brazil coastal towns as a New Year's Eve destination, and to be very successful at that.
