Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago formed by 21 volcanic islands and islets off the coast of Pernambuco, not only has some of Brazil's best beaches, but some of the best diving in the country as well. Part of the archipelago is a national park, created in 1988.
A new diving tour of Fernando de Noronha has been launched by Freeway Diving, a subdivision of Freeway, a Brazilian adventure tour company founded in 1983. One of Freeway's latest offerings is the Amazônia Gold Tour.
The eight-day package offered by Freeway Diving takes travelers to Noronha’s best diving spots, where the fauna includes sharks, dolphins, stingrays, sea turtles, goldspotted snake eels, and a great diversity of fish.
Underwater visibility in Noronha is in the 50-meter range. Water temperatures hover around 27 to 29 degrees Celsius, or about 80 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit.
The tour allows time to visit Fernando de Noronha's most famous beaches, such as Sancho, Baía dos Porcos, Cacimba do Padre, Conceição, Meio and Cachorro. The best way to get to some of the most spectacular beaches is by trail, and native guides will be available to take tourists on the Golfinho, Leão, Histórica and Atalaia trails, which afford great ocean views at some points.
