Reciprocity in Brazil Tourist Visa Fees for American and Canadians

By , About.com Guide

Patricia Ribeiro

A reciprocity policy in tourist visa fees is in effect for American and Canadian citizens traveling to Brazil. That means Brazil has raised tourist visa application fees for those nationals in response to raises in visa application fees for Brazilian citizens by the US and Canada.

According to the Consulate General of Brazil in New York, the tourist visa application fee for US passport holders was raised to $130 on Jan. 1, 2008. Canadian passport holders have been paying $65 for a Brazil tourist visa since Jan. 15, 2008.

The policy places Americans and Canadians as the top payers for a Brazil tourist visa. According to the tourist visa guidelines available on the Consulate General of Brazil in Miami website, a Brazil tourist visa costs $50 for a Japanese citizen, $30 for a Mexican citizen and $20 for the holder of a Wales passport, for example.
