Caixa Cultural
Art and Music for Free

By Patricia Ribeiro, About.com

Fostering Brazilian artistic expression and the exchange with international artists is the mission of Caixa Cultural (pronounced KYE-sha cool-too-ROWL). The cultural institution of Caixa, the Brazilian Federal Savings Bank, hosts art exhibits, installations, musical and dance performances, and plays.

To international travelers, the events at Caixa Cultural could be a good opportunity to view new work by rising artists or crafts from distant areas in Brazil, for free. Caixa Cultural venues are mostly located in touristic areas and some occupy historic buildings.

To locate a center, go to the Caixa Cultural website and click on the colorful tabs with state abbreviations at the bottom of the page.
