Get your Pet's International Health Certificate

Call your pet's veterinarian and check:

  • Is the veterinarian accredited to issue an International Health Certificate?
  • How much does it cost for a visit and the Certificate?
  • How long in advance do you need to schedule an appointment?
Take your pet for an appointment exactly 10 days before the day of your arrival in Brazil. Upon examining her and approving her for travel, the veterinarian will fill out and sign the International Health Certificate. Check the forms and see if anything is missing. If the document is not signed, for example, it will be rejected.

I suggest that you ask the veterinarian if he/she can specifically name infectious diseases particular to your area that your pet has been cleared of. In Brazil, I was informed by animal health officers that my pet's health certificate should state that she had no symptoms of any kind of myiasis, a concern for dogs coming from Brazil.

Although the pet admission guidelines on the Brazilian Embassy in Washington website include no such specifics, I would still talk to the vet about them.
