Lia's Houses: Casual Comfort in Trancoso

By , About.com Guide

Vacation rentals could be your best bet when you're looking for a place to stay in lovely Trancoso, Bahia. One of the best kwnown options is Casas da Lia, three houses on lush grounds overlooking the beach.

1. Introduction to Casas da Lia

Casas da Lia, or Lia’s Houses, in Trancoso, stand on a large plot of land with an orchard and gardens overlooking the ocean.

Close to the quaint little church which graces the Quadrado, Trancoso’s central (and rectangular) grassy square, the three houses represent many a beach lover’s feasible ownership dream: they’re neither too overwhelming nor too plain.

Even though the houses are within walking distance from all the attractions in the Quadrado are, their location allows for peace and quiet.

All the houses have cable TV, a DVD player, a stereo with iPod dock and wireless internet access. All bedrooms are air-conditioned.

Cleaning services are included. Also on the staff: a janitor, a night security guard, and a cook.

In São Paulo, you often run into someone who'd like to drop big city life and start afresh on a paradisiacal beach. Lia Udler went ahead and did just that. A pioneer in Trancoso's entry into the realm of very charming Brazil beach destinations, she lives in a house on the same land where she gradually built the rental homes.

During the Réveillon season, rental prices suffer a steep hike. But Trancoso's wonders go way beyond high season, and the houses are available year round. Lia offers some weather tips: "March, April, May, August and September are usually the least rainy. It tends to rain a lot in November."

3. Casa Grande - Big House

The largest house has four bedrooms and sea views from the terrace and deck.

Even though none of the houses are universally designed, Lia says she could work on the Big House to make it more welcoming to travelers with disabilities, if they have a travel companion.

"In the Big House, the bedroom, the bathroom and the living area are on the same level", she says. "There are four steps from the living room to the kitchen, one step from the living room to the patio and two steps from the patio to the pool. With enough advance in reservations, I can adapt the Big House for wheelchair users with wooden ramps. We have a strong janitor who can help, too. I'd love to receive guests with disabilities."

A cook's services are included in the fare.

4. Casa Laranja - Orange House

One of the Orange House's most charming features is a rooftop terrace with an ocean view. The house has two bedrooms.

A cook's services are available (optional).

5. Casa Verde - Green House

Even though the Green House has one bedroom, the living room sleeps two. In the bathroom, a garden with flowers and banana trees adds to the tropical feeling of this laidback Bahia getaway.

Though not universally designed, the house can be adapted to better suit travelers with disabilities.
