The Most German City in Brazil

From Patricia Ribeiro, About.com

Pomerode is one of the prettiest towns in Santa Catarina. Signs of German heritage are everywhere - Pomerode has the largest number of half-timbered houses in Brazil and you can see most of them along the Framework Route. German and German dialects are widely spoken.

Pomerode is a great day trip from Blumenau, just 20 miles away. You can easily fit a visit into your Oktoberfest planning.

You may want to stay longer, especially if you're coming from Florianópolis, 110 miles away. I have nothing but happy memories of Pomerode and I think you'll enjoy the local hospitality, the great food and shopping and the bucolic countryside.
