São Paulo State beaches range from very preserved ecosystems to beaches by ports and city beaches visited by massive crowds during the peak season.
You can keep track of water quality at São Paulo beaches year long with a handy and frequently updated online beach report card issued by CETESB, the states environmental sanitation company.
The CETESB report card indicates how many beaches there are within each citys administrative limits as well as how many were monitored, so you can see how representative the report is.
How to Use the CETESB Beach Quality Report:
- Go to the CETESB Beach Quality Map.
- CETESB makes it easy on the user with a green flag and a red flag to indicate whether the beach is adequate or inadequate for bathing at.
- Click on the name of the city. A report card (boletim) will show up for the beaches that are monitored in that city, with the current date at the top and the period when samples were collected (período de amostragem) at the bottom.
Still on the report card page for each city, click on Veja aqui a localização das praias, right under the flag symbols. A window pops up with some extra information about the beaches:
- On the chart, click on the citys name for a satellite map with the location of all the beaches monitored for that report card.
- The rest of the row tells you the number of beaches within the citys administrative limits, the coast length within its territory (in kilometers), the coast length monitored, the number of places where water samples were collected for the report card and the number of beaches monitored.
