Café Palhares Overview:
Updated on Nov.30, 2010Café Palhares, one of the most traditional bars in Belo Horizonte, opened in 1938 and is still at the same location in the downtown area.
The historic bar with nothing but a counter lined with fixed chairs is the home of Kaol, one of the most famous food combos in Brazil.
A regular participant in Comida di Buteco (which it won in 2009), Café Palhares also serves sandwiches, tira-gostos, or appetizers, and beer.
The two owners are sons of João Ferreira, aka Seu Neném, who, in 1944, bought the bar in a partnership with his brother-in-law from the founders, the Palhares brothers.
