Hotel de Lençóis is one of the best places to stay in the main gateway to Chapada Diamantina. Opened in 1979, the hotel which helped pioneer tourism in Lençóis looks and feels newer thanks to periodical renovations which among other changes have expanded the pool, added a reading room and upgraded the hotel with eco-friendly features which have garnered a sustainability seal.
The hotel atop a knoll is surrounded by large gardens with blooming shrubs, mature trees and a meandering path. Built in colonial style, it's got spacious common areas and updated guest rooms, a nice restaurant serving regional food and a helpful, courteous staff (some English and Spanish spoken).
The location in the historical town center is a plus, with quaint 19th-century architecture all around, shops, good places to eat and nightlife just steps away; just save some energy for the uphill walk on your way back from sightseeing.
Guest Rooms at Hotel de Lençóis
The hotel has 50 guest rooms, including wheelchair-accessible ones; all guest rooms have king size beds. One guest room is the best for honeymoons and romantic travel, thanks to its island-style decor, beautiful bathroom integrated with the bedroom and a large veranda with two trees.
Bosque (Woods) Suites, with enclosed porches, and the Serra (Mountain Range) Suites with open porches have attractive views. My favorite features in the Bosque Suite were the small but pretty bathroom with overhead natural light in the shower stall, the work station and the large reach-in closet.
