Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Copacabana hosts some of the best New Year's Eve celebrations in Rio - three parties, to be exact, all with access to the Discothèque (11 p.m. to 4 a.m.), Veuve Clicquot in the open bar and onion or lentil soup.
Food by French chef Roland Villard and the privileged view of the celebrations on the beach, encompassing all of the Copacabana half-crescent in one sweep, are among the highlights at this high-end Réveillon Magnifique.
Party at the Atlantis
At the Atlantis, the party will have five buffets. "Crustaceans" is the theme for the hors d'oeuvres this year. Some of the choices are king crab and avocado, shrimp rillette with lemon grass and lobster and asparagus aspic.
The seafood buffet will serve mango and heart-of-palm salad with lobster medallions, the chef's smoked salmon and several other dishes.
Cold dishes and terrines - for example, grilled foie gras in sweet and sour sauce and caramelized apple - will be served at another station.
Robalo in crustacean sauce, saffron and crayfish risotto and haddock ravioli with leeks are some of the hot dishes. The cut station will include rack of lamb provencal and badejo filet in champagne and shrimp sauce.
For dessert, there will be a crêpe suzette station and pâtisseries such as chccolate and hazelnut Paris-Brest, raspberry pie, crème brûlée and more.
The open bar will serve 12-year whiskey, red and white wine, Veuve Cliquot, beer, juice, sodas and mineral water.
The party price per person (R$1800 indoors, R$2400 veranda, plus taxes) includes reserved seating at shared tables, live music, and access to the Discothèque as well as the all-inclusive menu/open bar.
Dinner at Le Pré Catelan
Enjoy the view of Copacabana celebrations and fireworks almost at street level with supper at Le Pré Catelan (R$1250, indoor seating and R$1500 veranda seating per person, taxes not included) with dishes created specially for the occasion by chef Villard.
Amuse bouches (such as Parmesan mousse and pesto and watermelon gazpacho), terrines and main dishes such as roasted veal carré with osobuco, black truffles, artichokes and chestnuts are on the menu. For dessert: outstanding pâtisserie - gourmandises, mignardises - and truffles.
Veuve Clicquot and 8-year whiskey will be served.
Party at Horse's Neck
The party on the veranda of the Horse´s Neck Bar, overlooking Copacabana, has tickets at R$990 per person, taxes not included.
