One of Brasília's top attractions - the Metropolitan Cathedral, designed by Oscar Niemeyer (1907-2012), fully reopened to the public on Dec.18, 2012, 13 days after the passing of the architect.

A R$ 23-million investment from Petrobras, which has also sponsored the renovation of Museu Nacional da Quinta da Boa Vista, Mosteiro de São Bento and Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro among several other landmarks, has brought the church back to the pristine condition it merits as a testament to Niemeyer's genius, a place of worship dedicated to the city's patron saint, and one of the most important historic buildings in Brazil.
