Today marks the 500-day countdown to 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. The unveiling of the event's official poster, which was scheduled to take place today in Rio de Janeiro, has been postponed to Wednesday, in respect for the victims of last weekend's nightclub fire in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul. Festivities in Brasília scheduled for today were also canceled.
According to the Brazil government's Portal da Copa, the poster unveiling will take place this Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at Royal Tulip São Conrado Beach Hotel Rio de Janeiro.
Brazil president Dilma Rousseff declared three days of official mourning for the tragedy in Santa Maria. The decree was published today in the Union's Official Diary (DOU).
With condolences to the families and friends of the dead and heartfelt wishes for the recovery of the hospitalized survivors of the Santa Maria nightclub fire.
