São Paulo is decorated and ready for the holiday season with Natal Iluminado ("Lit-Up Christmas), the official yearly display of lights and festive events.
This year, all the city's 31 Subprefeituras, or district administrations, will have Christmas Squares with concerts featuring the choirs and musicians from Instituto Baccarelli, which offers musical programs to 1,200 youth from the Heliópolis district in São Paulo.
Moreover, many of the city's main squares and avenues, such as Vale do Anhangabaú, Praça da Sé, Largo do Arouche (photo), Praça do Pôr do Sol, Avenida Paulista,Avenida 23 de Maio, and Avenida Pacaembu have been decorated with holiday lights.
Turismetrô, the São Paulo Subway tourism program, is offering a special Natal Iluminado tour on Dec. 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23. Tours cost R$9 and depart from the Sé station at 4 p.m. Tours are canceled if it rains.
Some of the top attractions in Natal Iluminado are:
- Multimedia fountain at the Ibirapuera Park lake
A show with lights and dancing fountains to Brazilian music by Maria Bethânia e Dominguinhos, holiday wishes in several languages and images of Brazil., About 200 trees on the lake shores have been decorated with 1 million lights.
Nightly shows at 8:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
- Christmas Tree at Ibirapuera Park
First lighting ceremony on Dec.9, at 6 p.m. with Coral do Instituto Baccarelli, Coral Cênico and Orquestra Santander.
Lit nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Where: Praça Aldo Chioratto.
- Skating Rink
Opening on Dec.10; minimum age 5; free. Address: Clube Escola de Modelismo - Rua Curitiba 290/292 - Paraíso. Hours: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Christmas Square at Paulista Avenue
Located between Padre João Manuel and Ministro Rocha Azevedo, with the theme "Noel Band". The same structure will be used for Réveillon na Paulista, the city's main New Year's Eve celebration.

Natal Iluminado is promoted by the City of São Paulo Administration in a partnership with private partners: Associação Comercial de São Paulo, Banco do Brasil, Pão de Açúcar, Redecard, Sabesp and Santander.
The event is also supported by Eletropaulo, Companhia de Engenharia de Tráfego, the Metropolitan Civil Guard, the Military Police, the city's Subprefeituras (district administrationsO, and the Culture, Sports, and Environment Secretariats.
