Brazil's coastline extends over about 8,000 kilometers (nearly 5,000 miles) and there's always an exciting new stretch ahead. One the latest additions to my list of favorite beaches is Milionários, in Ilhéus, Bahia, because it is so expansive and so right for running.
The play of light on its sands of varying hues through the day...
Just amazing.
During a press trip timed to this year's International Chocolate Festival, our group stayed at the Jardim Atlântico Beach Resort. One of the coconut trees in the hotel's garden is currently the About.com Brazil Travel Twitter picture; and you'll see Milionários on the site's Facebook page.
Ilhéus has wonderful handcrafted chocolate and regional food. You can have memorable meals on the area's historical cocoa farms, such as Fazenda Provisão and Fazenda Almada, or at restaurants such as Maróstica, Bataclan or Fontana di Trevi at La Dolce Vita. Yet, one of the culinary highlights for me was simply the tapioca made for the hotel breakfast by Cristiane Pereira da Silva.
