Fundição Progresso, one of the top attractions in Lapa, Rio, is launching its 2012/2013 Carnival season tonight. Since tomorrow is the Proclamation of Republic holiday, the show is called República do Carnaval.
The old foundry is going to sizzle with performances by Casuarina, Orquestra Voadora and Bloco do Sargento Pimenta.
Bloco do Sargento Pimenta, whose music blends songs by The Beatles with a Brazilian Carnival beat and who performed in London during the Olympic Games, will be next on the stage.
Orquestra Voadora, with their eclectic and upbeat repertoire, will close the show - and invite you to a parade in the streets of Lapa.
Fundição Progresso doors will open at 10 p.m., but the show will start around midnight. You can buy tickets at the door; to pay half-price (R$40), bring a donation of 1 KG of non-perishable food.
Fundição Progresso Carnival includes an annual marchinha contest which revolves around great parties. Also coming up: more of the newly-launched happy hour (free!) on Mondays.
