The first edition of São Paulo Restaurant Week 2011 (there is another one in September) started yesterday with a first: this year, the event includes restaurants in 11 cities in São Paulo State other than the capital.
In the city of São Paulo alone, 233 restaurants are participating in the 8th São Paulo Restaurant Week (through April 3). Every one of them is serving a prix fixe menu consisting of an appetizer, main dish and dessert (R$29,90 for lunch and R$ 39,90 for dinner). Drinks, couvert and service are charged separately.
The menus are available, in Portuguese, on the official Restaurant Week Brasil website (www.restaurantweek.com.br). Though some of the city's best known restaurants, such as Maní (www.manimanioca.com.br), are not participating in the event, there are plenty of talked-about places to visit and discuss, such as Arturito (arturito.com.br) by chef Paola Carosella, winner of the Best Varied Cuisine 2010 category in the annual contest by Veja magazine's local guide.
